Bio

‘When reality and imagination merge into alienation you have got the essence of surrealism’

After some years of introduction to photography I felt ready for the next step: give my photos their own identity. What followed was a lot of research, image analysis and experiments.

The result is visible in a direct approach and often darkly stylized works. They each have their own alienating effect and frequently give a sense of discomfort.

Action and tranquility constantly merge and overlap in my works. Those two polar opposites represent conceptual directions that go back to different art movements of which the surrealism has got my special attention.

Using estranging effects is a conscious choice to create confusion and a more intense focus. To discover that it's not only about reality or what is in front of the camera.

For me it’s all about the expression of an idea, a message or emotion. I don’t intend to give ready-made answers to questions but to create room for interpretation and identification.
